Messenger

a poem by   EMILY FLUCKIGER

A Raven will not do
black and threatening
as the life I live for you.
its cry deafening
as my silence grew and grew.

I say.

A Pigeon will not do
dirty and lowly
as I do appear to you.
I remain lonely
as my ruin it would spew.

I say.

A Dove will not even do
fragile and small
as my wisdom seems to you.
we will never fall
as you expect I will do.

I say –

not enough, as I withdrew
and hope was out of view.
your affection is now long-overdue
and my heart turned from purplish to blue.

Alas, my message will never reach you
